Immune Boosting Tonic

This recipe was given to us by a friend a few months ago and this is the first time we have made it. He says it has worked really well for his family.....hardly ever a cold or flu in the house!

Immune Boosting Tonic

1 T finely chopped garlic
3 T finely chopped onion
3 T finely chopped fresh ginger root
3 T prepared horseradish (or finely chopped fresh)
1 t dried cayenne powder
apple cider vinegar

Sterilize a one pint jar.

Put all of the above ingredients into the jar, then cover with the apple cider vinegar, filling the jar to the brim.

Let sit 2 to 4 weeks. Shake every day. The longer it sits, the stronger it becomes.

Strain into a clean jar.

We take a small amount of this every day, diluted in some water.

  1. I could certainly do the garlic and onion, but the rest I'm not so sure about. Does it burn going down? Also, how little of an amount? I bet by the ingred. it probably does work - just thinking I might grow hair on my chest if I took a shot of that:) Did I mention I'm really a wimp when it comes to anything remotely spicy hot?
    Smiles and good health,

    1. JoeyLea, oh it does burn going down, which is why I only take about a tablespoon in an 8 oz glass of water. My husband can tolerate it stronger. I am also a wimp!

    2. We use this on a daily basis with one variation to the recipe. We add fresh ground tumeric. If you chase it with a wedge of orange or lemon it instantly kills the burn on your tongue.

  2. I love the idea of this. We have done a couple of things that are similar, but this is like all of our efforts combined into one tonic. I made our hot sauce this year of an immune boosting trio: cayanne, garlic and thyme. We also made just a simple prepared horseradish, with vinegar and salt. And finally, we made an oregano oil which is olive oil triple infused with oregano and we will be taking a small dropper full each day to keep our immune system healthy.

I do truly believe that what we eat (and also what we leave out of our diet) is the main key to our health. Living this lifestyle, it is imperative that we remain strong and healthy!

I appreciate all of your posts. By the way, we ordered our solar oven! :)

    1. Your tonics sound great, and I agree that it is so important to try and stay healthy! I would be interested to know how you made the oregano oil.

Congratulations on the sun oven! I hoped you enjoy yours as much as I have been enjoying mine.

  3. Hi Nancy, that looks like a wonderful combination of immune boosting things. I will give it a try, and add turmeric to it and probably cayenne too. I really need to harvest my horseradish!

  4. Emily, the turmeric would be a nice addition.
There you are talking about harvesting horseradish and we're burried in snow!
Hope you had a nice Christmas.
